C is for Caterpillar

Our caterpillars are here!
For the next few weeks we will explore the life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly. Metamorphosis is simply spectacular and the children are fascinated by the process. I introduced the concept first through a book and interactive flannel board activity. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is the perfect book for the toddlers to watch the process from egg to butterfly through story.

We also painted the first page of our butterfly life cycle book using water colors and Q-tips.
Over the next few weeks, the children will have the opportunity to practice self-control as we "look with our eyes and not with our hands," to make daily observations and discoveries.
