The butterflies in our class finally emerged and it was a magical and exciting experience to watch. After a few days in their net-habitat, it was time to let them go. We joyfully freed each one and we wish them well on their journey and travels.
I presented an activity that you may have made in your youth, the fabulous clothespin-coffee filter butterfly. This craft is easy to make and beautiful. The first step was using liquid watercolor through a pipette onto a coffee filter. The next step sounds easier than it is; the students used their fine motor skills to squeeze the clothespin open, wrap and twist a pipe cleaner (for antennae) and then insert the pinched coffee filter "wings." Ta-da! Our very own butterfly to keep!
