Monday, October 14, 2013’s not just for dinner

Corn has become the centerpiece of our discussions about harvest time. First, we learned how to shuck the corn by using our strong fingers and hand muscles. Then we used magnifying glasses to observe all of the different parts of the cob. We learned the words cob, silk, husk and kernel.

Next, instead of cooking up the corn, we used it as our painting tool! First we broke them in half and dipped the ends into plates of paint. Then we stamped them down onto paper creating flower shaped prints.

Finally, we squirted some paint into a box lined with paper and rolled our cobs back and forth, creating a very unique texture on the paper.
 Happy harvesting!
