Thank you to everyone for making our Teacher Appreciation Week such a special and fun time. I loved getting flowers every morning and your gifts were very generous and thoughtful. Some of the highlights were getting a new listening lotto game (which we've played and loved!), several gift certificates to treat myself to food or pampering, and a wonderful scrapbook of words and art from the students. Thank you for all the kind words and for the time and effort into organizing and executing a week of treats for all the teachers. We loved it!
It's been a whirlwind for May and I admit that summer is coming faster
than I'm prepared for! PreK was thrilled to begin our favorite summer
season topic, bubbles! Usually bubbles are accompanied by copious
amounts of water play but in light of the drought, we at GHCC are taking
steps to lessen our water usage. Even without an entire water table
full of bubbles, we still enjoy the experience on a smaller scale. Everyone had a cup and straw and quickly got the hang of blowing
bubbles. We learned that a bubble is air trapped in a liquid and we practiced adding air by blowing in the straw into our water and dish soap solution.
In another effort to conserve water, our outside table was filled with
rice last week and PreK had a blast filling kitchen containers with
rice, setting the table, and serving food to their friends.
The students in PreK have grown immensely in their social skills and
they now spend the majority of their time working and playing as an
entire group. Whether it's Legos, blocks, or a dramatic play area,
these students would rather work as a team than separately. I hear
polite and friendly phrases very often like, "Can I play with you?" and
"Can I have that when you're done?", which are exactly the type of
respectful interactions that we hope our students will employ.
Check back next week for our last post of the 2014-2015 school year!
